Elvis Presley’s ex-wife, Priscilla, recently appeared on Vogue’s YouTube channel and looked back on her life with some photos. She also remembered how Frank Sinatra once helped them to keep their privacy after their wedding.
Two of the world’s biggest stars, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra, were commonly seen as rivals throughout their music career. They also publicly criticized each other at some moments. Sinatra had some harsh words toward rock and roll, the genre which helped Presley become famous. Despite having very different views on music, the two legendary figures were friends.
There was even a historical moment when Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra sang together. When Presley returned from his military service in West Germany, Sinatra invited him to be a guest on his television show. After a week of rehearsals, Presley joined Sinatra on stage back in 1960. Their duet on the ‘The Frank Sinatra Timex Show: Welcome Home Elvis’ included a jazz version of ‘Love Me Tender.’ Presley also sang a version of ‘Witchcraft’ and ‘Stuck On You.’
The two stars’ friendship again showed itself after Elvis Presley married Priscilla in 1967. While looking at the old photos, Priscilla Presley encountered the one with Elvis in front of a plane. Then, she revealed that it was Frank Sinatra’s plane which he gave them after their wedding to escape from the paparazzi. They knew the media’s full attention would be on them after the wedding. Thus, Sinatra offered them a chance by giving them his private plane to keep their privacy. Priscilla recalled it as a very ‘gracious’ gesture.
Priscilla speaking on Frank Sinatra’s favor to Elvis and her:
“This is Frank Sinatra’s plane. Frank had offered us the plane so we could keep everything low-key and keep it again private. It was very gracious of him to do this because it helped a lot. After the wedding, the paparazzi definitely was after us. We were saying goodbye to some friends in Vegas and getting ready to get on the plane. It was a nice treat for us.”
